There is one thing I am doing as a parent that I know works to help my child (children) do well in school.
Tell us what you do and how you know it works. (Please state at least the grade or age of the child (children).

I'm able to check my 8th grade daughter's grades and attendance on-line. She knows I will see it on a regular basis and makes sure she has her work done well and on time. If a problem does arise, she usually tells me before I find out about it and react angrily. This has opened communication is a very positive way.
